Yamaha has developed the new 2009 FZ6R which has a completely redesigned engine earlier generation R6.
Although it shares bore and stroke dimensions with the new FZ6R FZ6 has a unique cylinder head, crankcase, intake and exhaust is designed to give the engine a new character ideal for commuters and riders entry range.

New and ultra-compact 600 cc, liquid cooled, DOHC 16-valve engine block diagonal four. This engine has been specially adapted to facilitate the conduct of highly linear power characteristics. It draws on current FZ6 with revised cylinder head, crankcase intake, new exhaust system and clutch and shifter revised.
A redesigned cylinder head has access to the same size (25mm) and exhaust (22mm) valves FZ6, but takes the form of suction has been reduced to increase the flow of air due to cleaner, more linear throttle response.
